COURSE DESCRIPTION

COURSE DESCRIPTION

New Training Courses have been introduced to meet the legal requirement of EC Regulation 842/2006 (commonly known as the F-Gas Regulation). The scheme is designed for operatives who service and repair air conditioning systems in Automotive Systems, and require the following skills:

  • Safe handling of refrigerant techniques
  • Recovery of Refrigerants
  • Intrusive and Non-intrusive Leak and Performance checking of system

Unit 301 meets the criteria of the European legislation for handling fluorinated gases in mobile A/C Systems and can be taken on its own.

Practical Topics include:

Practical Topics include:

Health and Safety. Adjustment of Control Devices, Pressure Switches, Pressure Testing (Tightness and Strength) in accordance with BSEN 378 (2008). Evacuation and Dehydration of Systems. Charging of Refrigerant into Systems. Refrigerant Recovery. Transference of Refrigerant from Cylinder to Cylinder. Testing of Recovery Cylinder Conetents. Systems Commissioning and Completion of relevant paperwork. Direct and Indirect leak testing of systems. Performance testing of Automotive Air Conditioning Systems. Checking system components, pipes, hoses and compressor drive belt and clutch unit. Checking of the systems lubricant. Correct Disposal of Waste Materials.

 

Theorectical Topics include:

Health and Safety. How refrigerants affect the ozone layer and induce global warming. The "Montreal and Kyoto Protocols". Refrigerants, properties, characteristics and Phase-out dates. Legislation to include: The Environmental Protection Act. EC Regulation 842/2006. Ozone depleting substances Regs. European Directive 2006/40/EC. Vapour Compression Cycle. States of refrigerants.
