Business Edge Ltd., incorporated January 10th 1990, was conceived and formed by Mike Creamer. As the first UK independent limited training company, Mike’s motivation for starting the business was also driven by other motives, in particular the desire to write engineering software and to develop advanced electronic control systems for the air conditioning and refrigeration industry.  However, several key industry people told Mike of their desperate need for technology training and the company started out with this objective. The training business has steadily since 1990 to become one of the best-known and well-regarded training companies in the UK and also overseas.

Mike Creamer originally developed and for 10 years ran all the Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology Part 1 & 2 and CITB Refrigerant Safe Handling Training and Certification Courses, but these are now managed excellently by Kelvin Kelly, Business & Training Development Manager.  We have also developed numerous specialised Courses, which we run on an In-House basis for a wide range of clients and these include Low Temperature Refrigeration, Vehicle Air Conditioning, Psychrometrics, Dehumidification, Humidification and many other topics.

Refrigerant Safe Handling & Certification

Business Edge Ltd is an approved ConstructionSkills for F-GAS Refrigerant Safe Handling Certification.  This intensive Course is presented and managed to very high standards.

Consequently, some delegates are initially concerned that they will simply not be able to attain a pass grade.  However, they then find our training methods taking effect and normally pass with a real feeling of achievement.  More importantly, they not only leave with a new attitude toward Refrigerant Safe Handling but also have a higher level of awareness with regard to their safety and that of others for the future. 

We also instill disciplined approach to working methods, which impinge directly on safety and good practice.  Our good reputation in connection with refrigerant handling has rapidly grown over the last few years and we are widely regarded and one of the top Centres in this field.

Well-attended Courses are often managed by 2 Instructors using multiple Training Rigs and we often extend the Course times to suit Engineers needs. Some days for us can be very long, but under no circumstances will we ever cut corners.

Training for Manufacturers

Business Edge has developed many specialised training courses for manufacturers.  For example, one project included training for all members of the assembly plant and electrical/mechanical design office for water chillers and special products, including coverage of all basics, principles, components, selections, pipework design, systems design, sizing of receivers and system refrigerant charge plus final commissioning on test rigs / calorimeters.

Our work also includes training for overseas governments and military organisations.

We also have extensive experience in electronic controls systems design, development and manufacturing through our successful sister company, Advanced Refrigeration Technology Ltd. 

Quantum Software

We have now been actively engaged in the development of specialised engineering software products for over 6 years.  Our flagship product line is the Quantum Suite which includes modular programs for calculating heat gains / losses for air conditioning, process cooling and coldrooms, refrigerant line/vessel sizing and systems design, psychrometrics and refrigerant properties.  These products are now selling extensively overseas since we have engineered our Quantum Gain / Loss programs to run with Weather Modules that we create for each country.  These contain all the solar, altitude and weather data specific to the towns / cities within the Module. 

The mathematics and programming code behind these products is staggering.  Quantum Gain / Loss are structured to meet the calculation criteria of the CIBSE Design Method and a number of manufacturers and distributors are also using these products for equipment applications and product designs.
